Manger Throne is a Christmas musical that follows the story of a modern family struggling under the weight of unmet expectations. Dean, a husband and father, has placed his hope in a long-awaited promotion, only to lose it—and with it, his sense of stability. His wife, Caroline, works to hold their holiday traditions together, while their children wrestle with disappointment and uncertainty about the future. As tensions rise, the family is compelled to ask where true peace and hope can be found when life does not unfold as planned.
This question leads naturally to the first Christmas. More than two thousand years ago, people longed for peace and answers in the middle of their struggles. The answer came in an unexpected way: a child born in a manger. That child was Jesus—God come near to us. He didn’t arrive with power, wealth, or fame, but with humility, to bring forgiveness, peace, and lasting hope to people like us. Through moving music, authentic family moments, and the message of Christmas, Manger Throne invites you to reflect on where hope is truly found and to consider the deeper meaning of the season.
Worship Pastor: Ryan Flint
At McGregor, our aim each time we gather together is to make much of Jesus! Our desire at Christmas is no different. Our Choir, Orchestra, Drama, and Tech Arts teams have prepared intentionally and diligently to present the GOSPEL in an excellent and creative way. I hope you enjoy the musical, and I want to invite you to join us on Sunday morning for one of our worship services. If you do not have a church “home,” please know that you are welcome here!
We pray that you are encouraged, edified, and reminded of the love God has for you. There is no cross without the manger. There is no manger without a Sovereign God that loves you!
Artistic Director: Christian Miller
What began as a story in my imagination has been a joy to see come to life on stage. My hope is that you’ll see through it how God’s plan is always greater than our own. My prayer is that this musical points every heart to take a step of faith, trusting that even when the road doesn’t make sense, the manger reminds us that Christ is working all things for His glory and our good.

In November 2024, the first seeds of Manger Throne were planted in a creative meeting at McGregor Baptist Church. Pastor of Worship, Ryan Flint, gathered a group of writers and artists to dream about the 2025 Christmas musical. Ideas flew across the room—family dynamics, biblical parallels, even echoes of the story of Job—but the team kept circling back to one central desire: a strong, faithful male lead whose struggles would intersect with timeless truths about God’s plan. The lingering question was whether such a story could unfold meaningfully within the frame of Christmas.
The breakthrough came unexpectedly for Christian Miller. While curating a Christmas playlist, he stumbled across Manger Throne, a Phil Wickham song arranged by Travis Cottrell. The lyrics, asking why Jesus came humbly in a manger instead of in glory and power, captured the very tension the writers had been circling around. That spark of inspiration quickly grew into a draft outline and scene-by-scene overview, which Miller shared with Flint. From there, the two gathered a smaller group of writers (nicknamed “The Core”) to carry the vision forward. This team, made up of Christian Miller, Ryan Flint, Kathy Goforth, Russell Howard, Nate Flood, and later Grace Prostrino, began meeting weekly to refine each scene, develop character arcs, and ensure the story remained both dramatically compelling and rooted in gospel truth.
Crucial to the process was music. Alongside two original songs written specifically for the show, the script incorporates worship music already familiar to many Sunday mornings at McGregor. These songs aren’t decoration—they’re woven into the storytelling itself. They give voice to the characters’ spiritual wrestling, highlight turning points in the narrative, and express both the emotional and theological depth of each scene. In Manger Throne, the music of the church becomes the soundtrack of real life, showing that what we sing together in worship also speaks into our struggles, our hope, and our daily walk with Christ.
