At our regularly scheduled Member Meeting on Sunday night, September 14, our Elder Body will present and recommend to our congregation four prospective Deacons.
The office of Deacon is an important place of service among our church family. Being a gift to the church, the role of Deacon is that of a servant, whose primary responsibility is to safeguard the health and unity of the church by meeting the logistical needs of the church and the practical needs of those at risk of marginalization (Acts 6:3-4, James 1:27). Our current Deacon Body has worked with our Elders to assemble this new group of brothers to be considered for Deacon service.
As you consider these men to possibly become Deacons, the Elders of our church want to know of any concerns or questions that you might have about any of these men before we present them to the congregation for a vote at the Member Meeting on November 9, 2025.
THE PROCESS
This process has been marked by much prayer and careful consideration, as the Elder Body has finalized this particular group of men to serve our church as a Deacon. When these brothers were presented and recommended at our September Member Meeting, they each shared their testimony and explained their desire to serve.
Now the congregation is charged to weigh in and make the final decision on the Elders’ recommendation at our next Member Meeting on Sunday night, November 9, 2025. It is important to remember as you consider these men, that your current Elders want to know of any concerns or questions that you might have about any of these men prior to the vote at the January Member Meeting. May we pray together and discover God’s will for these men and our church.
POTENTIAL DEACON CANDIDATES
Matt and his wife Meghan have been members of McGregor Baptist Church for 11 years. They have three children: Brea (10), Otto (9), and Ozzy (6). Matt currently serves in our Student Ministry. He also teaches and coaches football at Southwest Florida Christian Academy.
Greg has been a member of McGregor for over 22 years. He is widowed (Denise) and has three grown children: Kimberly Egolf, Robert Egolf, and Jeffrey Egolf (wife Danielle). He has three grandchildren ages 10, 8, and 6. Greg currently serves in the Worship Ministry as a choir assistant and is a member of the Harmony Life Group. He previously served on our Personnel Committee for 7 years.
Tim and his wife Virginia have been members of McGregor for 4 years. They have three adult daughters and four grandchildren. He has done medical mission work on three continents. He is actively involved in the John Herman Life Group and serves at the McGregor Food Pantry.
Josh and his wife Julie have been members of McGregor since they moved to southwest Florida in 2013. They have three daughters: Ellanorah (16), Clara (14), and Scarlett (10). Josh is currently the Men’s Ministry Director and teaches an adult Life Group. He has served as a teacher in our Children’s Ministry in the past. Josh also serves as a missionary for the Baptist Convention of Kenya, undertaking theological training for church leaders in Kenya.
