The Recommendation
At our regularly scheduled Member Meeting on Sunday, May 3 at 12:30 PM, our Elder Body will be recommending to our congregation that Mike Hess fill the position of Family Minister at McGregor.
The Process
Following the calling of our previous Family Minister to serve at another local congregation, we began a season of prayer and careful search for the individual who would step into this important and strategic role.
As we considered a number of candidates—both from within our church and beyond—Mike consistently stood out. Through a series of interviews with church leadership and the Personnel Committee, it became increasingly clear that Mike possesses the character, gifting, and alignment needed to serve effectively in this position.
Based on the Personnel Committee’s recommendation, the Elders then met with Mike and are now prepared to recommend him for this role. The Elders are asking the congregation to prayerfully consider their recommendation of Mike Hess for our next Minister to Family Ministries.
The Timeline
Prior to the upcoming congregational vote on May 3, Mike will be in all three of our morning services. On Wednesday, April 29, we will host a come–and–go fellowship time with Mike in room H184 from 5:30–6:30 PM. This will be your opportunity to meet Mike and ask him any questions you might have prior to the congregational vote. Members of the Personnel Committee and the Elder Body will also be available at that time to answer any questions as well.
There will be no Q&A at the Member Meeting on May 3, but, as always, questions can be sent to at any time.
Prospective Minister to Family Ministries
Mike and his wife Christina have been married for 29 years. They are blessed with two grown children – Joseph (28) and Hannah (24 and engaged to get married in July!) and a chocolate lab named Lucy. Mike was born and raised in Oswego, Illinois, a southwest suburb of Chicago. The youngest of three, he did not have the privilege of growing up in a Christian home and was introduced to the gospel through a faithful friend in high school. During Christmas break of his senior year, God graciously drew Mike to faith in Christ.
Over the years, Mike has had the privilege of being a senior pastor of two churches in Illinois and Iowa. He also led a parachurch ministry in the Chicago area for several years. He currently serves as Campus Chaplain for Evangelical Christian School here in Ft. Myers. He is a graduate of Clarks Summit University and Baptist Bible Seminary in Clarks Summit, PA. He is a certified biblical counselor with the Association of Certified Biblical Counselors. God has graciously given Mike the opportunity to lead mission trips and to do adjunct seminary and college teaching around the world in the countries of Australia, Israel, Jordan, Italy, Mexico, Colombia, Argentina, and Haiti.
